Approach to Climate Change
This Resettlement Policy Framework (RPF) has been prepared for the Vanuatu Rural Electrification Project Stage 2 (VREP II). The RPF is a companion document to the VREP II Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) (December 2016).
The Adapting to Climate Change and Sustainable Energy (ACSE) Solar, Biogas and Climate Early Warning System project is funded by EU-GIZ through the Ministry of Climate Change and implementing by the Department of Energy. The Soar component of this focuses on installation of solar freezer and provide lighting in a fishing community.
The main outcome of this project is increasing access to sustainable, and affordable energy in rural communities
Technical Need Assessment (TNA) for Vanuatu is funded by the UNDP partering with the GIZ. The objective of the TNA is to firstly identified priority sectors in the mitigation processes. The NAB has approved of the energy and waste to be considered for this TNA.
Vanuatu is unique among the Paris Agreement parties that have produced Low Emissions Development Strategies (LEDS) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS). Vanuatu is already net negative for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Vanuatu’s large forest area removes more than 10 times the GHG emissions generated from human activity.

Suva, Fiji – A major new report, Reviving Melanesia’s Ocean Economy: The Case for Action, launched today, has revealed that the ocean is a much larger part of Melanesia’s economy and future prosperity than previously understood.
Melanesia is a large sub-region in the Pacific that extends from the western end of the Pacific Ocean to the Arafura Sea, and eastward to Fiji. The region includes Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACTS ON WATER SECURITY IN VANUATU
This case study describes climate change impacts on water security in Vanuatu, using a step-bystep approach. Guidance around conducting this type of step-by-step assessment is provided in more detail on the Van-KIRAP web portal, along with other climate impact related case studies (also termed infobytes), factsheets, visualisation tools and technical resources. This case study can be used as an example for undertaking similar climate hazard-based impact assessments.
