It is with pleasure that I hereby submit to Parliament the 2017 Annual Report of the Ministry of Climate Change. A scholar once said, “a goal without a plan is just a wish.” The 2017 Annual Report for the Ministry of Climate Change is an important document in the planning process, allowing our Ministry to assess what has been done well and what activities remain to be implemented or strengthened in the coming years.
The Department of Energy (DoE) is one of the Departments under the Ministry of Climate Change Adaptation, Meteorology, Geo-hazards, Energy, Environment and National Disaster Management Office. Its mandate is vested in Vanuatu’s National Energy Roadmap (NERM) and the activities, policies, programs and projects implemented by the Department all contribute to achieving the policy priorities and targets stipulated in the NERM. DoE’s role is beyond policy and legislative development for an effective energy sector.
Also called a Jet Stove, a Rocket Stove is an efficient and hot burning stove using small diameter wood fuel. Fuel is burned in a simple combustion chamber containing an insulated vertical chimney, which ensures almost complete combustion prior to the flames reaching the cooking surface.
Wood fuel is the oldest form of extracting heat energy and is still the most popular form of energy in the Pacific. However, because it is so readily available, we tend to use wood fuel inefficiently.
The regulated MEPSL products are enforced under the bill for Energy Efficiency of Electrical Appliances, Equipment and Lighting Products Act No 24 of 2016. Most energy effeicient appliances can sometimes cost more in purchasing, but will be more energy efficient and cost effectve over time due to using less electricity in its lifespan.
